7 Shocking Examples of Extremist Libertarian-Based Society

You’ve heard the reverse-the-truth snarky “But there’re no Libertarian-based examples” or “Purist libertarians scare the public!” usually followed with ignoramus smug explanations about herding cats, atomistic individualism and Libertarian short-sightedness or the allowance it MAY work if all become Libertarian …well…first (we agree to the point that general Libertarian conversancy is key to best use)—and the response by underprepared enthusiasts with idiotic appeals to the US of 1800, strange personal versions of anarcho-capitalism, rants on the proto-libertarian justice system of Icelandic Vikings, or bizarre discussion of ‘Geo-(or other hyphenated)Libertarianism–or worse, equating the market or absence of rules with Libertarianism. So–here’re 7–we admit, disturbing– examples of Libertarian-based societies…some created by enthusiastic Libertarian fans…(extra credit: what government coercive monopoly/oligopoly are they replacing?)…and even called ‘radical libertarian utopianism’ by conservative pseudo-libertarians…

  1. The www.Libertarian-International.org, allied with the Gil-Lemos families,  a volunteer co-op that has in one form or the other endured as religions, civilizations and governments about it collapsed —and presently helps  networks hundred of activists and thousands of groups worldwide that  it publicizes (Who knew?).
  2. Freeware and a celebrated example developed on Libertarian ‘open management lines’– www.linux.com
  3. www.amazon.com and www.wikipedia.org
  4. The internet itself–visdualized and liberated from restricting rules and driven by Libs –from cell phones to PC’s and more…once prohibited by statute to enable inefficient phone monopolies…and serving as not only a massive machine servant for all but vast open network.
  5. www.BRAC.net The world’s largest anti-poverty self-empowerment group locally run by the (soon not to be) poor
  6. www.Foodshare.com (an example, note there’re many locally run projects)
  7. http://creativecommons.org/ First suggested by MG and Rothbard, promoted by Timothy Leary and William Rogers, clarified by several academics, “copyleft/creative commons” is now even used by the White House.

Most Libs use minarchism as shorthand for lib-friendly small and participative and often intentional community and anarcho-whatever for open networks with plenty of free choice. While not Lib per se, they’re critical tools and Libertarianize perceptions through practice–and when used with tolerance and respect for rights ( and often empowering non-governmental solutions), are increasingly called libertarian by the public.
